In Lviv region, historic villa in Skole granted a protection agreement

In the town of Skole in the Stryi district, a protection agreement has been concluded for an architectural monument of local significance, “Villa, early 20th century”. This followed an application to the court by the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office.

The case concerns a house in the Stryi district, built at the beginning of the last century by a local doctor, Terletskyi, in the Art Nouveau style. Before the Second World War, the building was known as “Terletskyi’s Villa”, and later it was used as an administrative building of the town of Skole.

Prosecutors established that this villa had been entered in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine back in 2021. At the same time, Skole Town Council, which owns the building, had failed for five years to conclude the mandatory protection agreement with the Department of Architecture and Urban Development of the Lviv Regional Military Administration. The absence of an agreement deprived the property of an appropriate legal mechanism for its protection and for monitoring its preservation.

In order to protect the interests of the state and ensure the proper preservation of the monument, the prosecutor’s office filed a claim with the court. During the consideration of the case, the breach of heritage protection legislation was remedied and the owner concluded a protection agreement with the authorised body.

In view of the voluntary compliance with the prosecutor’s demands, the proceedings in the case have been closed. The prosecutor’s office reports that it will continue to take representative measures to preserve cultural heritage assets and protect the interests of the state.
