Protection of the state’s interests in the field of forest protection and use is one of the priority areas of activity of the prosecutor’s office.
Under the procedural leadership of the Stryi district prosecutor’s office, further facts of illegal logging were exposed (Part 1 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, a resident of one of the villages of the Stryi District built an underground sawmill on his own farm. The man brought illegally cut wood there and sawed it into ready-made forest products.
During the search, 18 logs of wood, as well as chainsaws and a vehicle with 4 spruce logs were found and seized.
In addition, the exact location of illegal tree cutting on the territory of one of the forests of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” was established, where 9 more stumps were discovered.
Another illegal sawmill was also exposed in a nearby village.
Wood and forest products were found in the yard of the farm, namely: 4 spruce logs, 41 beams, 73 boards without permits and a metal portable sawmill.
Illegal felling sites were also identified in the forest massif of the Halsillis DLHP, where 14 more illegally cut and ready-to-transport logs of wood, as well as 5 tree stumps, were found.
Investigative actions are ongoing, a number of examinations have been scheduled, the seized wood, forest products, tools and means of committing the crime have been seized.
Illegally cut wood worth more than UAH 120,000 was seized.
The pre-trial investigation in the specified proceedings is carried out by investigators of police department No. 3 of the Stryi district police department of the Main Department of the National Police in the Lviv region.
