Prosecutors defend real punishment for resident of Sambir district for beating his friend
Following a public prosecution by prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of the first instance court. The latter ruling found the 24-year-old man guilty of causing intentional grievous bodily harm (Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
He was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
Prosecutors proved in court that in December 2022, in one of the villages of the Sambir district, the convict beat his friend.
That day, the men were drinking alcohol. During the feast, a sudden conflict arose between them, during which the defendant grabbed an ax and began to hit the victim’s body with it.
As a result, he caused multiple fractures, wounds and injuries to his friend.
The convict’s lawyer filed an appeal, in which he asked to be released from serving his sentence with the establishment of a probationary period.
However, the court agreed with the arguments of the regional prosecutors and dismissed the defence’s appeal.
