In Chervonohrad, police track down driver who hit a pedestrian and fled the scene

The car used in the hit-and-run was taken to the impound lot by law enforcement officers. The driver, a 20-year-old local resident, faces a sentence of restraint of liberty for up to three years, with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.

The road accident occurred on 29 February, around 20.00, on Stus Street in Chervonohrad. An unknown driver, driving an unidentified car, hit a 51-year-old local resident and fled the scene. As a result of the accident, the pedestrian was injured and hospitalised.

In the course of operational and investigative measures, officers of the Patrol Police Response Sector together with investigators of the Chervonohrad District Police Department found that the man had been hit by a 20-year-old local resident driving a Mazda 6. The police established her whereabouts. The car used in the hit-and-run was taken to the impound lot.

Investigators of the territorial police unit opened criminal proceedings over the incident under Part 1 of Article 286 (Violation of traffic safety rules) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty provided for by the sanction of the article is restraint of liberty for up to three years, with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.

The police are establishing the circumstances of the incident, and forensic examinations have been ordered.
