In the village of Yampil in Lviv district, during earthworks on a household plot, a local resident came across a suspicious metal object resembling ammunition. The woman immediately contacted the rescue service.
The community rescue officer who responded to the call established that it was a 76-millimetre artillery shell dating back to the Second World War. The munition, which had lain in the ground for more than 80 years, was located just a few metres from a residential house.
To keep people safe, the rescuer cordoned off the discovery site with warning tape and organised further response by the specialised services.
Sappers from the Mobile Rapid Response Rescue Centre “Lviv” of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine later quickly removed and destroyed the dangerous munition.
Rescuers remind the public that finds of such wartime “relics” in the Lviv region occur regularly. If you discover a suspicious object, you should move away to a safe distance and immediately call the Rescue Service on 101. Only trained specialists should deal with the disposal of explosive remnants of war.
