In Lviv, monitoring of air conditioning on public transport has been stepped up. Due to the heat and numerous passenger complaints, the city transport department is checking whether cooling systems on buses operating city routes are working. This was reported by the Lviv City Council.
The First Deputy Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Moskalenko, stressed that on buses where air conditioners are installed, they must be switched on while passengers are being carried. If, during an inspection, an air conditioner is found to be switched off or faulty, the carrier will be fined.
In just one day, breaches were recorded on routes No. 23, No. 51, No. 53 and No. 84. According to the Director of the Department of Urban Mobility and Street Infrastructure, Oleh Zabarilo, intensified inspections of the technical condition of air conditioners on bus routes have been under way in the city for the past two days.
The day before, 85 buses belonging to private carriers ATP-14630, “Fiakr”, “Mira i K” and “Uspikh BM” were inspected. Inspectors found both vehicles with faulty air conditioners and buses that were not equipped with such systems at all. For each violation identified, carriers face a fine of 1,700 UAH.
The City Council is calling on passengers to report cases where air conditioners on buses are not working, or where it is impossible to open windows on vehicles without cooling systems. Reports are accepted via the City Hotline on 15-80.
Officials also thanked those carriers who in recent years have additionally equipped their vehicles with air conditioners and take care of passenger comfort. At the same time, they promise to make information about identified violations as public as possible.
