In Lviv, EU representative inspects construction of social housing on Mykolaychuka Street

In Lviv, the Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Jost Möllmann, visited the construction site of social housing on Mykolaychuka Street. During the visit, he inspected the buildings already erected, spoke with residents of the first occupied section and familiarised himself with further plans for the development of the project, which is being implemented with financial support from the European Union.

One of the symbolic moments of the visit was the raising of the flags of the European Union, Lviv and Ukraine near the social housing buildings. Alongside them, a black-and-white Flag of Hope was displayed in support of people who are still in captivity. This gesture underlined European solidarity with Ukraine and the joint efforts of the city and international partners.

“For me, this is a very impressive visit — to see this housing, which is of an exceptionally high standard and helps people who need rehabilitation… So many thanks to everyone who has worked on this project” — Jost Möllmann

The first residential building on Mykolaychuka Street was opened in February 2025. It is a six-storey building with 24 flats, where people undergoing rehabilitation after injuries sustained as a result of the war are temporarily living. In the first year, a total of 50 people lived in this building.

A separate component of the project is MOLOHOUSE — social housing for young people. This is the first housing format in Ukraine aimed at employed young people, including internally displaced persons and representatives of professions that are important for the city. The building includes barrier-free flats and shared spaces designed to support comfortable living and the social integration of residents.

Construction of the next residential sections on Mykolaychuka Street is currently under way. The new buildings will vary in height — 4, 5 and 6 storeys. The project provides for flats, shelters, car parks, technical and administrative premises, as well as spaces for social adaptation.

An important element is accessibility: the housing and public space are being designed with the needs of people with disabilities in mind. The surrounding areas will be landscaped and equipped with sports and recreational zones, children’s playgrounds and convenient pedestrian routes.

The Director of the LCP “Lviv Intercity Bureau of Technical Inventory”, Yurii Telipskyi, noted that, according to preliminary estimates, several new buildings on Mykolaychuka are planned to open by the end of the current year, and finishing works are now under way there.

The project “Housing for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Recovery of Liberated Cities in Ukraine” is being implemented on the initiative of the Lviv City Council with the support of the European Union. The European Commission has provided EUR 19.5 million in grant funding for the construction of social housing, and the project is managed by NEFCO. The City of Lviv, for its part, has financed the installation of the necessary utility infrastructure.
