According to Lvivelectrotrans, two more Berlin cars have already been certified, insured, and will start running on the line without passengers on 2 November.
It is planned that they will be put into service on Monday, 4 November. The trams will run on routes 3 and 6.
As of today, there are already 6 trams in operation in Lviv, which were donated to the city by Berlin. At the same time, two more trams are currently being refurbished in repair shops. After all the work is completed, they will also go on the line.
As a reminder, 12 KT4D cars and spare parts were donated to Lviv by the Berlin Transport Company. The city received the first tram from this batch at the end of May, and the last one at the beginning of July this year. At Lvivelectrotrans’s car repair shop, the trams are being converted to fit the Lviv gauge, some equipment is being replaced, painted, and released into service in stages.
According to Lvivelectrotrans, the Berlin cars are energy-efficient and consume 2-2.5 times less electricity than existing trams. This will allow the company to save on electricity, in addition to strengthening tram routes with additional cars.
Last month, the city also received the first two trams from Bern. The cars are currently being prepared for operation on city routes. Lviv expects to receive 4 more Bernese trams by the end of the year. The city should receive the remaining 5 cars next year.
Next year, Lviv will receive free trams from another Swiss city, Basel. The local transport company will donate 23-25 used large Schindler Be trams with a low-floor section. And another 10 smaller cars will be donated as spare parts.
It is worth noting that the city has recently significantly renewed its electric transport rolling stock. Thus, in 2021-2024, with loans from the European Investment Bank as part of the Urban Public Transport of Ukraine project Lviv purchased 10 modern low-floor Electron trams.
