The “Unbreakable Mothers” center from Lviv was nominated for the most prestigious EU architectural award

The Mother and Child Center “Unbreakable Mothers” in Lviv has been nominated for the most prestigious Mies van der Rohe EU architectural prize – European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2024. It is awarded for the best projects in the field of modern architecture. In total, there are 11 projects from Ukraine among the nominees, including three from Lviv.

According to the chief architect of Lviv, Anton Kolomeitsev, the Mies van der Rohe award is the most prestigious architectural award in Europe. Most countries and architects are proud of the projects submitted for this award. And we are also happy that three projects from Lviv have been nominated for this award.

“One of these projects is extremely important for us – it is the Unbreakable Mothers complex. It was implemented by the Lviv City Council with the financial support of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine.

The object was designed by the architect Taras Sulyk and his team, and the landscaping around the center was done by the employees of the Department of Architecture and Urbanism of the LMR. We believe that this is a worthy example of social architecture. Currently, a lot of attention in the world is not focused on expensive commercial architecture, but on architecture that makes a great contribution to the social well-being of the community. And here we are talking about pregnant internally displaced women with small children.

We managed to create a place where food is prepared together, there is a place for co-working, children’s spaces, where children have the opportunity to psychologically recover after what they experienced in their hometowns, villages and towns.

We are very pleased that this project was included for participation in this competition. Let’s hope for victory,” said Anton Kolomeytsev.

We will remind you that the architectural project of the Mother and Child Center “Unbreakable Mothers” was previously included in the list of the best projects implemented during the war. The review was published in the online visual culture magazine Bird In Flight.

In addition, in 2020 the Memorial of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred became the winner of the First National Award for Landscape Architecture. The project won in the nomination “The best realized object of public space” in the category “Squares, boulevards”.
