Drohobych has become one of the first cities in Ukraine to establish the tradition of regular visits by the mayor to the maternity ward. New mothers are congratulated on the birth of their children and receive support packages along with their babies’ first embroidered shirts.
In December 2024, 39 babies were born at Drohobych City Hospital No. 1’s maternity ward. Among them were 22 boys and 17 girls, including 5 babies from families of internally displaced persons who moved to Drohobych from Kherson, Crimea, Luhansk, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Throughout 2024, a total of 621 babies were born in the Drohobych community.
New mothers are traditionally greeted by Mayor Taras Kuchma and the Head of the Family and Youth Department, Oleksandra Pashko, who visit the hospital weekly. They distribute support packages containing essentials such as sweets, toys, clothes for newborns, diapers, and more. Babies from Drohobych also receive their first embroidered shirts.
For mothers who have already been discharged, support packages can be collected at Office No. 210 in Drohobych City Council (Family and Youth Department).
The first visit of 2025 took place on January 1, with Mayor Taras Kuchma extending New Year’s wishes and congratulations to the new mothers and their families.
In November 2024, one of the postnatal rooms in the city’s maternity ward was fully renovated, transforming it into a modern space equipped with furniture and appliances for the comfort of mothers, their babies, and relatives. The hospital administration plans to refurbish other rooms in the maternity ward soon.
