Lviv International Airport, named after King Danylo, is developing a passenger evacuation plan and gearing up for the potential reopening of flights by late 2025.
According to the airport’s CEO, Tetiana Romanovska, the possibility of resuming civil aviation during martial law is being explored, provided all safety requirements for passengers, aircraft, and infrastructure are met. “We have prepared an operational evacuation document and are conducting regular evacuation drills,” Romanovska stated.
To ensure readiness, the airport management is actively collaborating with international partners, airlines, aviation experts, as well as government and aviation organizations. Efforts are focused on analyzing the complexities of safely restoring air travel in Ukraine.
Earlier, in October 2024, Crispin Ellison, a senior partner at Marsh McLennan, revealed plans to reopen one of Ukraine’s airports (either Lviv or Boryspil) for flights by late January 2025. He added that five airlines have preliminarily agreed to operate from Ukraine.
The final decision on reopening any airport lies with the President’s Office and will depend on the effectiveness of air defense systems and the overall security situation in the country.
