The Lviv region is actively working on introducing organic products into school meals.
This was discussed during an interdepartmental meeting chaired by the deputy head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Oleksandr Kulepin. About 100 representatives from various departments, educational institutions, and agricultural producers took part in the discussion. “For the Lviv region, quality nutrition for children is not only a matter of health care but also a strategic development task for the region. It has several dimensions: investment in children’s health, forming lifelong habits, supporting the local economy, developing farming, creating jobs, and following the European vector”, emphasized Oleksandr Kulepin.
The project “Improving Access to Local Food Products” is being implemented in partnership with the French region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. “The French region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine has supported the development of the organic sector for many years, working closely with professional organizations”, noted Olena Deineko, head of the public union “Organic Initiative.”
Oleksandr Kulepin emphasized that the experience of the French partners proves the effectiveness of organic food in schools. The project is an example of international solidarity and experience exchange. During the 2024-2025 academic year, about 61,000 students in the Lviv region were provided with free meals. However, the supply of organic products remains limited. The next step is a clear plan for the implementation of organic products in school meals.
