A large family from the Zhovkva community, which had been living for an extended period in a converted collective farm bathhouse, has finally been granted the right to their own home thanks to the intervention of prosecutors. For almost twenty years, this family, which comprises nine children, had been awaiting a resolution to their housing issue.
The mother of the family, who holds the status of Heroine Mother, was left without her husband last year, along with the children. Some of the children have grown up, but others continue to live with her, including a son and daughter with disabilities. At the onset of the full-scale invasion, two sons of the family took up the defence of Ukraine: one sustained serious injuries, while the other went missing in the Zaporizhzhia direction.
Legal issues with the registration of the house resulted in the family not having rights to this property. The Prosecutor’s Office, having reviewed the situation, approached the court to have the property deemed ownerless and transferred to the community’s ownership. The court supported this initiative, which enabled the Zhovkva City Council to formalise the communal property rights to the house and subsequently transfer it into the family’s private ownership. This significantly changed the situation for the family, who had been waiting for over 20 years for a solution to their housing issue.
