Residents of Lviv have noticed that caps on many plastic bottles remain attached. This is in compliance with the European Union’s environmental requirements regarding single-use plastics to reduce waste, as reported by the Lviv City Council.
According to the ‘Household Waste Management Service Administrator’, plastic caps are a common type of waste. Thanks to the new rules, manufacturers are producing bottles with “attached” caps, which helps prevent their loss and facilitates recycling.
According to the company, currently 95% of container sites in Lviv have bins for plastics. In 2025, residents sorted 2.3 thousand tonnes of plastic waste.
Plastic takes at least 150 years to decompose, so it is important to direct it for recycling. To do this, bottles must be washed, dried, compressed, and disposed of in a yellow bin or mesh container.
- Items that can be disposed of in plastic bins include: plastic bottles; plastic utensils; containers from household chemicals; cling film; polyethylene bags.
- Items that cannot be disposed of include: plastic contaminated with grease or food residues; bottles with liquid inside; soft packaging (including sweet wrappers).
