Doctors from the USA to Conduct 20 Reconstructive Surgeries in Lviv

In Lviv’s OHMATDYT, doctors from the USA plan to conduct up to 20 complex reconstructive surgeries.

At the Children’s Medical Center Hospital “OHMATDYT,” as part of the ninth Reconstruction Mission, a team of doctors from the USA plans to perform about 20 complex reconstructive surgeries. On the first day, the doctors provided 50 consultations, including 15 for orthognathic (skeletal-reconstructive) facial surgery and over 30 for lip, palate, and nose plastic surgery. Patients came from all over Ukraine, including frontline regions. Specialists conducted about 30 more consultations online.

This time, the team brought about 25 individual implants, 3D printed for six patients. Each set costs between $7,000 and $10,000, and patients receive them for free. These implants help restore the facial bone structures after injuries or congenital defects.

“Alongside colleagues from the USA, we are learning both new techniques and the culture of mentorship and team support. This helps us grow as specialists,” said Khrystyna Pogranychna, maxillofacial surgeon at the Children’s Medical Center and mission participant.

It should be noted that the Reconstruction Mission is a long-term international mentorship program, within which John L. Frodel Jr. and John M. Sands, founder of Advancing Residents of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons AROMS, work alongside Ukrainian doctors. The mission is initiated by the “Christian Medical Association of Ukraine” within the EduCare project along with partners: Ed’s Friends, LEAP Global Missions, and Razom for Ukraine. Since the start of the program, the Reconstruction Mission has already helped over 900 patients. These are children and military personnel who needed complex reconstructions. Upcoming missions and broader collaboration between Ukrainian and international teams lie ahead.
