Lviv Doctors Saved a Woman from a Dangerous Stent

In Lviv, doctors performed a unique operation to remove a stent that could have led to the patient’s death.

The stent, installed in an elderly woman for bile drainage, ‘migrated’ and caused purulent inflammation. This threatened the patient’s life. To avoid serious complications, surgeons and endoscopists at St. Luke’s Hospital conducted a minimally invasive operation. They removed the stent through an incision of only 0.5 cm, drained the abscess, and sutured the duct.

To heal the duct, a new stent with fixation was placed. Thanks to this method, the patient returned home just five days later. A month after the intervention, she returned to the doctors for the removal of the new stent.

“I am very glad that it is all over. I feel very well,” noted the grateful Ms. Hanna.
