Ukrainian neurosurgeons participated in a training course in Japan to enhance their skills.
Our neurosurgery team is constantly advancing, even if it requires flying to the other side of the world. This time, our specialists – Mykhailo Lovga and Yulya Halii-Gerasymovych – participated in the Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (IONM) Training Course in Japan, organized by the International Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiology (ISIN).
Over three intensely packed days, participants explored in detail the possibilities of IONM during neurosurgical interventions on the brain: monitoring of movement, speech, vision functions, and precise identification of functionally important brain areas. Discussions covered not only the advantages but also the limitations of the method to jointly develop truly high-quality solutions for patients.
Our leading pediatric neurosurgeon Mykhailo Lovga was one of the most active participants – engaging with questions, discussions, and vibrant dialogue with lecturers. This was appreciated by all, especially the lecturers. Because the development of medicine begins with dialogue.
In the Clinic of Pediatric Neurosurgery, Epilepsy Surgery, and Neurophysiology #center_of_child_medicine we, without exaggeration, have one of the largest experiences of applying IONM in children in Ukraine, and we also conduct training courses for colleagues. Simultaneously, we constantly stay updated with global innovations to provide our patients with the most modern care.
“Such meetings are immensely important for every specialist in this field. Here we discuss new possibilities for maximizing safety in neurosurgical operations in functionally important areas of the central nervous system,” – add medics Yulya Halii-Gerasymovych and Mykhailo Lovga.
A sincere thank you to the Japanese side and the head of the course – Kunihiko Kodama, as well as to the true gurus of this direction: Kathleen Seidel, Gea Drost, Dimitrios Kefalas, Andrea Szelenyi, and other experts.
