Lviv’s Largest Hospital Gains a 100-metre Well

In Lviv, a project has been completed to provide a backup water supply for the National Rehabilitation Centre UNBROKEN. This is the largest hospital in Ukraine in terms of area and number of patients, and it now has its own 100-metre well with a capacity of 1000 m³ per day. The well will be able to supply the hospital complex with twice the volume of water currently consumed from centralised water supply.

The project costs 648 thousand euros and was implemented with the support of the French government and the organisation Aquassistance. All processes for managing the system will be remotely controlled.

The Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, noted, “The largest hospital in Lviv and Ukraine is becoming even more secure. Now doctors and patients feel more confident because we have a three-level protection for water, heat, and electricity supply.”

Oleh Samchuk, General Director of the First Medical Association of Lviv, emphasised, “The alternative water supply is extremely important for us. This is a strategic matter, and now we have quality water with new equipment.”

According to Volodymyr Bilynskyi, Deputy Chief Engineer of Lviv Municipal Enterprise “Lvivovodokanal”, the well’s electricity supply will be provided by a diesel generator in case of disruptions. The project took 27 months to complete and included several stages, from geophysical surveys to commissioning the system.
