Over 10,000 Lviv residents receive free check-ups during “Health Week”

In Lviv, from 2 to 6 June, a “Health Week” took place, during which medical tents offering free check-ups operated at 29 locations across the community. Over this period, 10,356 people took the opportunity to have their health checked, the Health Department of the Lviv City Council reported.

According to doctors, almost every third participant in the campaign was found to have abnormal indicators requiring a doctor’s attention. In particular, more than 2.9 thousand people were recorded as having high blood pressure, and more than 2.9 thousand people had risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.

More than 2 thousand participants were found to have impaired visual acuity, and more than 1.7 thousand people had abnormal blood sugar levels. In almost 350 people, the electrocardiogram showed changes requiring further examination. During the campaign, new cases of viral hepatitis, HIV infection, Helicobacter pylori infection and risks of diabetic retinopathy were also identified.

The Head of the Health Department of the Lviv City Council, Marta Matiushko, noted that compared to last year, the number of people who checked their blood sugar levels, were tested for HIV, assessed their cardiovascular disease risks and had their eyesight examined had increased. She stressed that prevention and timely detection of diseases make it possible to avoid serious complications.

“Health Week” is a citywide preventive campaign organised by the Health Department of the Lviv City Council together with doctors from municipal treatment and diagnostic centres and hospitals. In the medical tents in different districts of the city, residents can have key health indicators checked free of charge. Last year, the campaign was held twice — in June and October — and more than 17 thousand people were examined.
