The Drohobych community has reported an increase in infectious diseases. This was announced on December 16 during an operational meeting by Volodymyr Chuba, head of the Department of Health of the Drohobych City Council. Over the past week, 321 people contracted flu and ARVI, which is 59 more cases than the previous week.
The highest incidence rates were recorded in the following age groups:
- children aged 5-14 years – 99 cases;
- adults aged 30-64 years – 114 cases;
- children aged 0-4 years – 32 cases.
Additionally, one case of COVID-19 was reported.
Doctors emphasize that elderly individuals and those with chronic illnesses are at the highest risk of complications from viral infections. Vaccination remains the most effective prevention method against the flu, offering protection from current virus strains. It is safe, effective, and crucial in avoiding severe complications.
In addition, 612 patients were hospitalized in the community’s medical facilities over the past week. According to Volodymyr Chuba, the number of hospitalizations has significantly increased, requiring doctors to work overtime and in intensified conditions.
Among the hospitalized patients:
- 17 were admitted with heart attacks;
- 19 were admitted with strokes.
A total of 95 surgical procedures were performed, 39 of which were urgent.
Over the past seven days, 11 babies were born at the maternity ward of the Drohobych City Hospital, including 7 boys.
