Vaccination of Wild Animals Against Rabies Begins in Lviv Region

From 18 May, oral vaccination of wild carnivores against rabies has commenced in the territory of Lviv Region. The main office of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection in the Lviv Region reports that this campaign is part of the Epizootic Prevention Plan for the prevention of infectious and parasitic animal diseases in 2026.

The vaccination will cover an area of 13,840 square kilometres, specifically: Drohobych District with an area of 720 square kilometres. Teams will distribute 346,000 doses of vaccine using ground distribution outside populated areas and water bodies.

The vaccine from the brand LLC ‘UKRVETPROMPOSTACH’ is safe for humans and animals. These are nutritious briquettes made of meat-and-bone meal, attracting animals from a distance due to their specific smell. Animal immunity develops 21 days after consuming the bait and lasts for a year.

A total of 243 working groups are involved, including representatives of various departments, state and local authorities, and forestry services. Veterinarians emphasise the importance of avoiding contact with wild and stray animals and advise consulting veterinarians if there is any suspicion of pet illness.
