On Saturday, 2 November, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Yuriy Proniuk and Vasyl Mykytyshyn, who gave their lives defending Ukraine from Russian occupiers.
The City Hall calls on residents and visitors to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from entertainment and celebrations during this time.
The funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul. Afterwards, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a citywide farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.
Yuriy Pronyuk and Vasyl Mykytyshyn will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.
Biographical information about the defenders
Yuriy Proniuk (08.03.1994-28.10.2024) Born in Zhydachiv, Lviv region.
He studied at the secondary school No. 54 in Lviv. He graduated from the Lviv State Financial Academy.
After graduation, he worked in the construction industry in the Republic of Poland. He was an active sportsman, loved to play the guitar and sing. According to his family, “he was a wonderful father and husband, a very talented man who succeeded in everything. Kind, intelligent, fair and honest, he was not afraid of anything. A great patriot of his country”.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he returned from abroad and voluntarily stood up to defend his homeland from Russian invaders. He performed combat missions to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in the ranks of the 4th separate detachment of the Special Forces “Omega” of the Special Forces Centre of the National Guard of Ukraine.
He fought against the occupants in Donetsk, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia regions. For his personal courage, he was awarded the President’s decoration “For Defence of Ukraine”.
The Hero is survived by his mother, wife, two children, sister and brother.
Vasyl Mykytyshyn (10.01.1979-27.10.2024) was born in the village of Vyshnivchyk, Lviv region.
He studied at the former Trudutske Primary School of the Zolochiv City Council, then entered the Velykove Vilshanytsia Secondary School. He received his education at the State Vocational School “Chervonenske Higher Vocational School”. He served in the army.
After returning, he worked in the construction industry in Lviv. He was fond of cars and mushroom picking. His relatives say that Vasyl Mykytyshyn was “an extremely calm and sensitive, kind and sincere person, he adored his little daughter. The best father and husband.”
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He fought against the Russian invaders in the eastern direction as a member of the 117th separate mechanised brigade of the 10th Army Corps of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Vasyl Mykytyshyn is survived by his parents, wife, three-year-old daughter, brother and sister, many relatives, friends and acquaintances.
