This weekend, Father Ihor Tsmokanych held a charity tour in St George’s Church to raise funds for the purchase of drones for our Defenders.
St George’s Church is one of the most famous buildings of sacred wooden architecture in Galicia and all of Ukraine. Due to Russian aggression, in 2023, the church was included in the International List of Cultural Property under Temporary Enhanced Protection. The church is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
St George’s Church impresses with the surprisingly plastic forms of its Baroque exterior and the unique pictorial decoration of its interior. This rare combination makes it an unsurpassed “poem in wood”.
More than a hundred visitors came to the museum that day to learn about the peculiarities and symbolism of the biblical stories in the paintings of St George’s Church, as well as to listen to interesting stories about the wooden pearl of the city from Father Igor Tsmokanych and to support the charity fundraiser for the soldiers.
Afterwards, all those present joined in a common prayer for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, for Victory and peace in Ukraine.
The event was organised with the support of the Sambir-Drohobych Eparchy of the UGCC.
