Under the “Your Own Garden” grant program, Lviv region ranks third among Ukrainian regions in terms of the area of orchards planted and fourth in terms of the amount of grant support paid.
The government has expanded the conditions for providing grants for the development of horticulture, viticulture, and greenhouse farming. This refers to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of August 5, No. 871 and the Procedure for Providing Grants for the Establishment or Development of Greenhouse Farming, approved by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of June 21, 2022, No. 738 “Some Issues of Providing Grants to Business” (as amended).
Accordingly, this decision expanded the list of regions for growing stone fruit, in particular, grants for planting cherries became available for Lviv region. In addition:
- increased the maximum area for planting peaches, apricots, sea buckthorn, raspberries, currants, gooseberries, blackberries, and red currants due to the reduction of planting areas for blueberries and blueberries;
- clarified the period during which the garden grant recipient is obliged to create the appropriate number of permanent and seasonal jobs specified in Annex 1 to the Resolution, namely: for permanent workers – at the stage of planting; for seasonal workers – within a five-year period after the completion of planting in the total number of seasonal workers;
- removed the requirement to install irrigation and water intake systems for grape plantations;
- expanded the circle of recipients engaged in the production (without the addition of alcohol) and/or sale of grape wines, fruit and berry wines, and honey beverages.
“Under the grant program ‘Your Own Garden’, Lviv region ranks third among Ukrainian regions in terms of the area of gardens planted and fourth in terms of the amount of grant support paid. Since the start of the program, 256 hectares of new intensive orchards and berry gardens have been planted with the support of grants. In total, 16 business entities received grant support in the amount of UAH 73 million,” commented Lyudmyla Honcharenko, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Development.
Within the framework of the grant project, the largest share of the area (49.2%) will be occupied by nut crops (walnuts, hazelnuts), (39.4%) by berry crops (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries), and the remaining 11.4% by stone fruit crops (apple and pear).
