In Lviv region, applications are being accepted for financial support for the development of pedigree cattle breeding. Agricultural producers can receive partial reimbursement of the cost of pedigree in-calf heifers for dairy, dual-purpose (dairy and beef) and beef production, as well as beef heifers. The programme is being implemented under the Comprehensive Programme for the Support and Development of Agriculture in Lviv Region for 2021–2026, funded from the regional budget.
Applications to take part in the programme are being accepted up to and including 10 October of the current year.
Under the terms of the scheme, partial reimbursement of the cost of pedigree in-calf heifers and heifers is up to 30% of their price excluding VAT, but not more than UAH 15,000 per head. Support is available to agricultural producers, farming enterprises (including family farms) and sole traders who have purchased pedigree animals of domestic origin or imported them from abroad in the period from 1 October of the previous year to 30 September of the current year.
Pedigree in-calf heifers and heifers must be purchased from entities engaged in pedigree breeding in livestock production and must be accompanied by pedigree certificates. Recipient enterprises must ensure that the average monthly wage level of their employees for the last reporting quarter is not less than UAH 13,500 (this requirement does not apply to sole traders and members of farming enterprises who do not accrue wages but receive income).

Purchasing pedigree animals is an effective area of investment in farm development, as high-quality genetics directly affects productivity, herd reproduction and the economic efficiency of production. The results of this work are already evident: over the past year, the number of cattle in the region’s agricultural enterprises has increased by almost 17%, the number of cows by 21%, and the productivity of the dairy herd has risen by 15%.
