A well-known Canadian businessman and owner of the popular hockey publication The Hockey News wants Lviv to become the European capital of sledge hockey, a sport accessible to people with disabilities. Earlier, during a meeting with the mayor of Lviv, the Canadian already supported the idea of building an ice arena and promised to join the informational support of fundraising.
Last November, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy met with Graham Rustan, a Canadian businessman, philanthropist and owner of The Hockey News, who visited Lviv. In particular, the meeting discussed the importance of sports rehabilitation within the NEZLAMNI ecosystem.
Graham Rustan is a well-known businessman, philanthropist, investor, and owner of The Hockey News, a popular publication with an international audience in North America and Canada. Thanks to the audience of his media, the Canadian plans to raise funds for the development of sports infrastructure in Lviv.
One of the areas of ice sports rehabilitation is sledge hockey, which is particularly accessible to people with disabilities.
Recently, the Canadian businessman published his article for The Hockey News, in which he shared his observations of how hockey continues to develop in Ukraine despite the war.
“Sledge hockey is much more challenging than regular hockey and requires extreme physical and mental toughness, so it’s perfect for these wounded warriors because they exemplify endurance,” Graham Rustan shared in an article for The Hockey News.
“As part of the Unbroken project, planning has begun to build an ice arena designed from the ground up for the needs of wounded warriors. I have been building, operating and owning rinks for over 30 years so I thought I had heard and seen just about everything by now, but I was wrong. I have never seen or even heard of the idea of building a public rink specifically for sledge hockey players. The only thing I’ve ever heard of before is how to make existing and future projects more accessible to sledge hockey players. This idea is game-changing in many ways, and it’s a powerful one when it comes to public ice rinks. I thought about how wonderful it would be for Lviv to become the European capital of sledge hockey,” added the Canadian businessman.
