The Ukrainian Weightlifting Championship was held in Lutsk from April 22 to 27. The competition was attended by 20 teams from different regions of Ukraine.
The men’s team of Lviv region scored 1732.5 points and became one of the three strongest teams in the country. Weightlifters from Khmelnytsky region took the first position (2727.5 points), and men from Donetsk region took the second position (2220 points).
RESULTS OF ATHLETES FROM LVIV REGION:
Bohdan Goza returned to the platform after an injury and won GOLD in the snatch, bronze in the clean and jerk and silver in the total biathlon in the weight category over 109 kg!
Oleh Shchekalev won a bronze medal at the Ukrainian Weightlifting Championships among men in the 61 kg weight category. Our athlete also won small bronzes in the clean and jerk (100+117 kg).
Young Vitaliy Soroka took 5th place in the same weight category.
Myroslava Vyzdryk and Anna Kirstyuk became silver medalists of the Ukrainian Women’s Championship in the weight class of 81 and 87 kg, respectively. Our athletes also won silver medals in the clean and jerk!
Anatolii Horidko became the bronze medalist of the Ukrainian Men’s Championship in the 96 kg weight class. Our hero also won bronze medals in the clean and jerk (157 + 182 kg)!
In a very dramatic fight and fierce competition, Yaryna Petruk stopped one step short of medals in the women’s 49 kg weight class, taking 4th place. The weight was lifted, the judges counted it, and then the jury overturned the decision for pressing.
Sergiy Bogush in the 81 kg class was fifth in the snatch and seventh in the overall event. Yevhen Voronka took 6th place in the 67 kg weight category.
Our young Serhii Lyshei took 7th place in the 73 kg weight category.
Also, young Yaroslav Nyzovyi finished the competition on the 8th place in the 102 kg weight class and for the first time fulfilled the standard of Master of Sports of Ukraine.
Viktoriya Tkachenko finished in 8th place in the 64 kg weight class, giving the team points as well.
Taras Kinakh also took 8th place in the snatch with a weight class of over 109 kg.
Four representatives of the Lviv region team took eighth place among 22 regional teams.
“In addition to the team result, this championship was also important for us because we were looking forward to the return of our titled weightlifter from Zhydachiv, world junior champion Bohdan Goza,” adds Roman Khimyak, head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
