During the first seven days of 2025, officers of the 7th Carpathian Border Unit recorded five attempts to offer illegal benefits totaling nearly 99,000 UAH.
The bribes were offered in both national and foreign currencies.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine emphasizes a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. According to Valentyna Skred, head of the anti-corruption and prevention group of the Carpathian Unit, offering, promising, or providing illegal benefits to officials, as well as accepting such offers, constitutes a criminal offense punishable by law.
For comparison, in 2024, border guards of the same unit refused bribes amounting to almost 2.5 million UAH. The largest bribery attempts were recorded at the “Krakivets” and “Shehyni” checkpoints.
Most bribery attempts came from individuals trying to leave Ukraine illegally. These included people presenting forged documents, lacking the necessary paperwork for crossing the border, or attempting to avoid administrative liability by offering bribes.
All reported violations were handed over to the competent authorities for further legal proceedings.
