
The Ukrainian Studies Conference “Ukraine in the World” will take place in Lviv on 8–10 July, bringing together over 210 participants in person and more than 40 online. Scholars, representatives of universities and academic centres from 38 countries, including Ukraine, will take part in the event.
This year’s conference focuses on the development of a new Ukrainian studies, grounded in networking, active communication, and an awareness of the multilingualism and cultural diversity of contemporary Ukraine. The programme includes more than 55 academic panel sessions, 15 presentations of research centres and projects, 5 book presentations and 2 exhibitions.
The event is organised by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Institute and the Ukrainian Catholic University in cooperation with the Global Ukrainian Studies Coalition. The conference is held with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation, the Mnozhyna Foundation and the city of Lviv.
The official opening is scheduled for 8 July from 17:00 to 20:00 at the Lviv National Opera (28 Svobody Avenue). Entry to the ceremony is by invitation, and subject to accreditation for media representatives. Introductory remarks will begin at 17:30, including an address by the Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy of Ukraine and Minister of Culture of Ukraine Tetiana Berezhna, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha, Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration Maksym Kozytskyi, Mayor of Lviv Andrii Sadovyi, Director General of the Ukrainian Institute Volodymyr Sheiko, Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University Taras Dobko, as well as representatives of the International Renaissance Foundation and the Mnozhyna Foundation.
At 18:00, as part of the opening, a public discussion “Ukraine in the World: From Empathy to Agency” will take place. The discussion will feature journalist and TV presenter Myroslava Barchuk (moderator), Professor of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Cambridge and founder of the Cambridge Ukrainian Studies programme Rory Finnin, Professor at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and the University of Warsaw, essayist and cultural scholar Ola Hnatiuk, as well as poet and servicewoman Yaryna Chornoguz.
At 19:00, the presentation of awards from the Global Ukrainian Studies Coalition is planned. The main academic programme of the conference will run on 9 July from 09:00 to 17:00 and on 10 July from 09:00 to 17:30 at the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Centre (29A Stryiska Street).
Media representatives are asked to undergo prior accreditation. The deadline for applications is 7 July at 18:00. Accredited journalists will be able to attend the opening ceremony on 8 July, as well as the academic sessions on 9 and 10 July.
