On Sunday, 23 August, an exhibition by the Museum of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, entitled “Loyalty. Courage. Strength. Naval Forces: Through Centuries and Generations”, will open in Lviv. The exhibition, prepared by the museum from Odesa, will be hosted at the City Museum on Rynok Square, 1.
The exhibition aims to present Ukraine’s naval history and to underline that Ukraine is a maritime nation with centuries-old traditions of military glory, which is now, before the eyes of the world, changing approaches to waging war at sea. It will showcase the development of the Ukrainian fleet from the Black Sea Cossacks and the period of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917–1921 to the modern Naval Forces, including surface forces, naval aviation, marines and the emergency diving service.
Among the exhibits will be Cossack weapons and uniforms, the first naval flags, personal belongings and awards of Heroes of Ukraine, ship models, naval artefacts, examples of naval mines, as well as trophies — weapons and equipment of the Russian army seized during the fighting in the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions.
The tourism department, which is a co-organiser of the event, stresses that residents of Lviv and visitors to the city will be able to see the history of the Ukrainian fleet through real objects, documents and the personal stories of the people who created it, and in this way pay tribute to the Ukrainian sailors who have defended and continue to defend Ukraine’s right to remain a free maritime nation.
The exhibition will run from 23 August to 1 October 2026. Admission is free, but advance registration is required online or at the Tourist Information Centre on Rynok Sq., 1. Registration will open on 23 August.
Opening hours of the exhibition:
- Monday–Friday — from 12:00 to 20:00;
- Saturday–Sunday — from 10:00 to 20:00.
