Roman Homan’s Historical Book: From Origins to the Interwar Period
A significant event of great cultural and historical importance took place yesterday in the village of Reklinets, in the Velykomostivska community – the presentation of a book by local historian Roman Homan. This is not just a publication – it is a vast collection of historical research, meticulously gathered and now available for future generations.
Two Volumes of the History of Reklinets Village
- The first volume covers the period from the origins to 1914 – from the earliest mentions of the village to the beginning of World War I. It details all stages of the village’s development: political, economic, social, everyday, and cultural aspects of local residents’ lives. Separate sections are dedicated to prominent figures who played significant roles in the community’s formation. The author also paid attention to the history of the neighboring village Stremyn. The publication is supplemented with over 500 photographs, drawings, maps, and tables.
- The second volume discusses events from the beginning of World War I to the end of the interwar period. It continues the chronology of the development of Reklinets and Stremyn, focusing on people’s lives during this challenging time. The book contains over 580 photographs, drawings, maps, and archival materials.
In total, the author used 1700 sources in his work, including books, archival documents, newspaper articles, manuscripts, and even personal memories of eyewitnesses.
The Making of the Book
Roman Homan admits that the path to creating the book was long and challenging. Initially, it consisted of just scattered notes, which eventually grew into large texts. Such painstaking work required incredible dedication, patience, and attention to detail. The author not only gathered information but also meticulously verified each fact to ensure the book’s accuracy. However, the most challenging stage became its publication, as funds were lacking. It was here that people who truly believed in the importance of this project came forward to help.
Wonderful reflections by the author on the significance of the past: “History is not just events left in the past, but a foundation upon which our present and future are built. The past is not a burden but an invaluable treasure that preserves the wisdom, experience, and traditions of our ancestors. It teaches, inspires, allows us not to repeat mistakes, and at the same time shows how great human spirit achievements can be. In the same way, the history of Reklinets is more than just a chronology of events. It is the memory of generations passed down from grandfathers to grandchildren; it is a heritage that unites all residents into a common family. Without knowing the past, we cannot fully comprehend our place in the world and, thus, confidently move forward. Preserving historical memory is our duty to future generations. For only those who know and honor their roots can proudly create new pages of history.”
Sponsored Support and the Book’s Significance for the Community
Significant financial support for the book’s publication was provided by the company “Acris West” (AST group), operating in the Velykomostivska community. Its representative, Viktor Skorenko, understanding the colossal effort put into this work, agreed to support the author. At the presentation, representatives of the company were present – Advisor to the Head of the corporate governance board of the AST group Viktor Skorenko, who supported the book’s publication, and the territorial manager in the Sheptytsky district, Lviv region, Andrii Stasiv, who oversaw the project. They noted that it is a great honor for them to be involved in this matter and to contribute to preserving the historical memory of the glorious and dramatic past of the village of Reklinets and the Velykomosty community.
