The charitable foundation of the Japanese composer and frontman of the rock band X JAPAN Yoshiki Hayashi Yoshiki Foundation America together with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced a grant program for creative and inclusive civil society initiatives related to music.
Musicians, bands, musical educational institutions and public organizations in the musical sphere from Kyiv region and Lviv region, as well as the cities of Kyiv and Lviv are invited to participate.
Each of the selected initiatives will receive up to $10,000 for jam sessions, songwriting workshops, charity concerts, traveling music shows, the purchase of musical instruments for music school students and their teachers, free music classes for migrant children and local and other creative and inclusive musical events. Activities that will receive grant support are scheduled for May-June 2023.
This initiative is part of Yoshiki’s efforts to support the Ukrainians since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Last year, the artist donated 20 million Japanese yen (about 142,000 US dollars) to IOM’s humanitarian activities in Ukraine and neighboring countries. The new music support program will aim to improve the mental health of the affected population, strengthen social integration and cohesion between displaced people and local communities.
