Driver sentenced to 4 years in prison for causing a road traffic accident with grave consequences
Following a public prosecution by prosecutors of the Zhovkva District Prosecutor’s Office, a 46-year-old woman was found guilty of violating traffic safety rules by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, which caused the victim grievous bodily harm (Part 2 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
He was sentenced to 4 years’ imprisonment and deprived of the right to drive vehicles for 6 years.
Prosecutors proved in court that in May 2022, the defendant, while intoxicated, committed a road accident in a village in Lviv district.
In particular, while driving a car, the driver did not slow down without objective obstacles and ran over four pedestrians who were moving alongside.
As a result of the accident, one of the victims sustained numerous serious bodily injuries in the form of a head injury, brain contusion and haematomas. The others sustained injuries of varying severity.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Police Department No. 2 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region.
The court verdict will come into force after the expiration of the appeal period.
