Kherson Resident Extradited from Poland on Murder Suspicion

In March 2026, a man suspected of the brutal murder of a 7-year-old girl and her mother in Kherson was extradited from Poland to Ukraine. This crime occurred in July 2022, when a 40-year-old woman and her child visited her former husband, hoping for safer conditions. Instead, the 41-year-old host killed his ex-wife and stepdaughter. This was reported by the Specialised Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region.

A forensic examination confirmed that before her death, the girl was a victim of rape. After committing the crime, the suspect left the city through territories not controlled by Ukraine and hid abroad for a long time. In March 2025, law enforcement officers informed him of the suspicion in absentia and declared him internationally wanted.

Thanks to cooperation with foreign partners, the suspect was detained in Poland. On 19 March 2026, he was extradited to Ukraine. At the prosecutors’ request, the court imposed a preventive measure of detention. He is charged with the intentional murder of two persons and the rape of a minor (paragraphs 1, 2, 10 of part 2 of article 115, part 4 of article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The man faces life imprisonment.

Extradition remains one of the key tools in ensuring the principle of the inevitability of punishment. Since the beginning of 2026, three individuals have been extradited to Ukraine from Belgium, Germany, and Poland. Meanwhile, Ukraine fulfils its international obligations and this year has granted requests for the extradition of offenders to Belgium, the Czech Republic, and Austria. Work with international partners continues. The guilty must be held accountable according to the law.
