4-year-old Girl Falls from Window in Lviv Region: Criminal Proceedings Initiated

Incident in Novyi Rozdil: Child Falls from Third Floor

A 4-year-old girl fell from the third floor in Lviv region, prompting police to initiate criminal proceedings. The child’s mother was intoxicated at the time, and faces punishment of up to five years in prison for her actions.

Event Details

The incident occurred on April 20 at 8:25 PM on Vyacheslav Chornovil Street in the city of Novyi Rozdil, Stryi district. A neighbor noticed the child who had fallen from the window of an apartment located on the third floor, and called medics.

Juvenile prevention officers and other services of the Stryi District Police Department established that the girl was in a room while her mother was in the kitchen. The window in the room was open, with a chair nearby. The child climbed onto the chair, then onto the window, lost her balance, and fell. The girl’s 27-year-old mother was intoxicated at the time and left the child unsupervised for almost an hour.

Criminal Proceedings

The Stryi District Police Department investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, opened criminal proceedings under Article 166 (Malicious Failure to Fulfill Duties of Supervising a Child or Person under Guardianship or Care) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for punishment of restraint of liberty for a term of two to five years or imprisonment for the same term.

A pre-trial investigation is underway.
