The police have opened a criminal case for negligent homicide. The maximum punishment that threatens the hunter is imprisonment for a term of up to five years.
The event took place on September 23 around 11:30 p.m. in one of the forest areas in Stryi district. As the employees of police department No. 3 of the Stryi district police department established, during the hunt, a 63-year-old resident of the city of Skole fired a shot from a Saiga hunting carbine, hitting his nephew, a 38-year-old resident of Lviv.
According to the hunter, he and a relative were hunting for game and in the dark confused him with an animal. The bullet hit the man in the neck, causing injuries from which he died at the scene.
According to the fact, the investigators of the territorial division of the police opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 119 (Murder due to carelessness) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty provided by the article is imprisonment for a term of up to five years.
The hunter is detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, the court will soon choose a preventive measure for him. The law enforcement officers also seized and sent for expert examination the weapon from which the fatal shot was fired.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
