The detainee, who was previously held criminally liable for similar crimes, faces a penalty of imprisonment for up to seven years.
The operatives of the criminal police, together with investigators and employees of other units of the Stryi district police department, documented the facts of the sale of weapons and ammunition by a 56-year-old resident of the district center.
During the regular implementation, the police detained the perpetrator in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Later, law enforcement officers seized weapons and ammunition and sent them for expert examination. It was also established that the man had previously been held criminally liable for committing similar crimes.
Investigators of the territorial division of the police, under the procedural guidance of the Stryi district prosecutor’s office, informed the intruder of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in part 1 of article 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a term of three to seven years.
According to the court’s decision, the suspect is in custody with the possibility of posting bail.
The pre-trial investigation continues, law enforcement officers are establishing the origin of the weapons and ammunition.
