Following a public prosecution by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, three Ukrainian citizens were convicted of collaboration (Art. 111-1(5) and (7) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
They were sentenced to 15, 10 and 12 years’ imprisonment and additional sanctions were imposed – deprivation of the right to hold any positions in state and local government for 15, 15 and 10 years with confiscation of property, respectively.
Prosecutors proved in court that in April 2022, the defendant voluntarily took up the position of a firefighter in an illegal law enforcement agency created by representatives of the aggressor state.
This is the 69th fire and rescue unit of the state budgetary institution “Volnovakha Fire and Rescue Detachment of the Ministry of Civil Protection, Emergencies and Disaster Relief of the Donetsk People’s Republic”.
In addition, it was established that in July 2022, a resident of Kherson voluntarily agreed to the offer of the occupation authorities to take a position of a specialist in the “Service for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Management of Kherson Region”.
The man exercised control and supervisory functions over the subordinate district administrations and fire and rescue units, coordinating their actions to extinguish fires, respond to emergencies, accidents, and perform emergency rescue and other urgent work as a result; supervised the work in the units on organising and ensuring the conditions of service for personnel to comply with internal regulations, maintaining fire equipment and fire water supply sources in good working order, organising
Prosecutors also proved that another defendant voluntarily joined the occupation state law enforcement agency in Donetsk region in August 2022.
She held the rank of “police major” and was appointed as the acting head of the migration service sector of the Pershotravnevskiy district department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the DPR. Later, the local resident was appointed to the position on a permanent basis.
Having pledged allegiance to the terrorist organisation, the men and women contributed to the establishment and consolidation of the temporary occupation of a part of the territory of Ukraine in Donetsk and Kherson regions.
The special pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the SBU Office in Lviv region.
