Operation Pervotsvit launched in Lviv region

Take care of primroses, unique plants of nature

Primroses are one of the first signs of nature’s spring awakening. Their blooming indicates that the winter sleep is over and nature is ready to bloom in full. The flowers of the first days of spring are a source of nectar for insects, and their pollen and seeds are food for birds and other forest inhabitants.

To protect primroses, the State Ecological Inspectorate in Lviv Oblast launched Operation Primrose 2024. This initiative is aimed at counteracting the illegal removal of primroses from the natural environment.

Pursuant to Article 88-1(1) of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences, the illegal acquisition, sale and distribution of flora is punishable by a fine of UAH 510 to UAH 1,700.

At the same time, the same actions committed in relation to flora that were within the territories and objects of the nature reserve fund listed in the Red Book of Ukraine or protected in accordance with international treaties of Ukraine entail a fine of UAH 1,700 to UAH 3,655 with confiscation of flora (Article 88-1(2) of the Code of Administrative Offences).

“Traditionally, we urge residents of our region not to pick primroses, and even more importantly, not to buy them. Each of us can contribute to the preservation of the harbingers of spring, allowing them to bloom and amaze us with their beauty. Let’s act together, adhering to environmentally responsible approaches and leaving these beautiful plants intact in their natural environment!” – Oksana Viytyk, Acting Director of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Lviv Regional State Administration, calls on residents and visitors of Lviv Oblast.
