The number of deer, roe deer, wild boars and bison has increased in Lviv region

In the Lviv region, a census of animals living in the hunting grounds provided for use in the region was conducted. Compared to last year, the number of European deer, roe deer, wild boars, bison and bears has increased in Lviv region.

This was reported on the Facebook page of the Western Interregional Forestry and Hunting Administration:

“To ensure an objective inventory, the accounting work was carried out in the presence of responsible specialists of the state forest protection, state environmental and public organisations.

All users of hunting grounds in Lviv region, and there are 73 of them in our region, have successfully completed the winter census of game species of animals and birds. In addition, the state forest protection service also conducted a census of hunting fauna in the state hunting reserve.

In total, the accounting works were carried out on the entire territory of hunting grounds of the region on the area of 1771.0 thousand hectares.

According to the results of the hunting fauna census, as of today, the following species have been recorded in the region: European deer – 2025 (1921); roe deer – 19199 (18450); wild boars – 3935 (3581); spotted deer – 53; elk – 145; and Daniel deer (fallow deer) – 98.

Thus, the number of ungulates in the region increased by 1225 heads compared to the previous year and reached 25627 (24402).

The number of hares slightly decreased from 46353 to 44884.

This is the result of an increase in the number of wolves and red foxes. The number of wolves increased by almost forty (214 to 250), and the number of red foxes increased by more than 300.
It is gratifying to note that the number of Red Data Book hunting species is also increasing, in particular:

🦬 bisons – 172, last year there were 156 individuals and
🐻bears – 79 animals (there were 72 last year).
