Law enforcement blocks another smuggling channel in Yavoriv district

 

In exchange for USD 17 thousand, the offenders promised to produce a set of fictitious documents for a man of military age to leave the country without hindrance. They will be prosecuted for their actions.

The criminals were exposed by investigators of the General Criminal Investigation Department of the Lviv Police Investigation Department jointly with operatives of the SBU Office in Lviv region, under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office in the Western Region.

According to law enforcement officers, for USD 17 thousand, a 53-year-old resident of Yavoriv district and her accomplice, a 45-year-old resident of Ternopil, undertook to produce a set of fictitious documents for a man of military age, which would allow him to leave the country under martial law, as well as to transport the “client” across the state border of Ukraine to one of the European countries.

One of the defendants, a resident of Lviv region, was detained by law enforcement officers in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine after receiving the first tranche of money from the “client” in the amount of USD 11 thousand. Also, during authorized searches at the place of residence of her accomplice, law enforcement officers found and seized significant amounts of money in different currencies, mobile phones and other material evidence of involvement in illegal activities.

The criminals were served a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense stipulated by Part 3 Art. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
