The famous Ukrainian poet Dmytro Pavlychko died

At the age of 94, the famous Ukrainian poet, public and political figure, Hero of Ukraine Dmytro Pavlychko died. In particular, he was the author of the song “Two Colors”.

This was announced by the head of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine Mykhailo Sydorzhevskyi on Facebook.

“Dmytro Pavlychko died this evening. I was just told about this by Bohdan Horyn with reference to the writer’s daughter.”

As noted, the death occurred this evening, January 29.

The poet was born on September 28, 1929 in the village of Stopchativ, Ivano-Frankivsk region, in a peasant family with many children. From the fall of 1945 to the summer of 1946, he was imprisoned on the charge of belonging to the UPA. In 1953, he graduated from the philological faculty of Lviv University.

At the same time, the first collection of his poems “Love and Hate” appeared. Among Pavlychka’s other popular works: “Two Colors”, “When We Walked Together with You”, “I Longed for You, Sweetie…”, “Our Flag”, “The Adventures of Martin the Cat”, etc.

In 1990-1994, 1998-1999, and also in 2005-2006, he was a people’s deputy.

In 1995-1998 he was the ambassador of Ukraine to Slovakia, and in 1999-2002 he was the ambassador of Ukraine to Poland.
