On January 30th, in the Sheptytskyi district of Sosnivka, an extraordinary event occurred. During a routine patrol, emergency responders received a call about a discovery of an unknown substance in the basement of a five-story building on 22 January Street. Anticipating the worst, the team quickly headed to the location.
During a detailed inspection of one of the basement’s storage rooms, a glass container was found, which unfortunately had broken. Mercury had spilled from the container, covering an area of about 2 square meters. The specialists promptly began collecting the spilled mercury using mechanical methods, managing to securely collect 300 grams of the hazardous substance.
After the collection, the mercury was handed over for storage and further disposal to an authorized representative of the local authorities. The team also performed demercurization at the site of the incident to minimize any negative consequences for the health of the residents of the building and the surrounding environment.
