The first air quality monitoring station launched in Western Ukraine

At the end of December, a high-tech stationary air quality monitoring station was installed in our city. This was made possible through financial support from GIZ Ukraine as part of the ‘Fair Transformation of Coal Regions and Green Recovery of the Energy Sector in Ukraine’ project.

On January 31, a meeting took place with several significant figures of the city, including the First Deputy Mayor Dmytro Balk, as well as representatives of the local Department of Ecology and Natural Resources, among others. The event was also attended by Harry Pietarila, a representative of the Finnish Meteorological Institute, and the GIZ Ukraine team.

The main topic of discussion was the implementation of the air quality monitoring system, with a particular focus on the functionalities of the newly installed station. As Igor Kravets mentioned, it is the first station of this type in the western region of Ukraine, opening possibilities for in-depth monitoring and data analysis regarding air quality in the region.

If there are difficulties in processing the data, the Finnish Meteorological Institute can provide the necessary support. Future plans include integrating the station into the pan-European atmospheric monitoring network.

The stationary station will measure not only air pollution but also accompanying parameters such as temperature, pressure, wind speed, and humidity, allowing for the most accurate analysis of the environmental status in the region.
