During a session of the Lviv Regional Council, deputies approved a plan for forming a network of specialized academic lyceums. The plan was developed by the regional education department in collaboration with local communities, making Lviv Region the first in Ukraine to implement such a network.
Network of Specialized Lyceums
The network, created according to the criteria of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, includes 129 academic lyceums across the region. The majority of them—63 lyceums—are concentrated in the Lviv district, while the smallest number—7 lyceums—will operate in the Zolochiv district.
Requirements and Future Prospects
According to the Law of Ukraine “On Complete General Secondary Education,” all regions must finalize similar networks by 2027. From that point:
- Competitions for teaching and principal positions will become mandatory for these institutions.
- Students in grades 10-12 will have the option to choose specialized educational tracks and study selected subjects in greater depth.
Other Educational Institutions in the Region
In addition to academic lyceums, Lviv Region is home to:
- 7 specialized lyceums under the regional council’s jurisdiction.
- 47 vocational education institutions that continue to train professionals in various fields.
Lviv Region is making significant strides toward enhancing its educational system, offering students modern opportunities for learning and growth.
