Inclusive space “Butterfly Garden” opened at Rozdil Children’s Residential Care Home

An inclusive developmental space called “Butterfly Garden” has been opened at the Lviv Regional Council’s Municipal Institution “Rozdil Children’s Residential Care Home” for recreation, development, communication and rehabilitation of children and young people with disabilities. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Military Administration.

According to the Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, the area has been fitted with inclusive swings, roundabouts, exercise machines, relaxation zones and a safe environment for the socialisation of residents.

The institution is home to 85 people with disabilities, including 16 internally displaced persons. In recent years, the living quarters have been refurbished, a modern sensory room has been created and spaces for development are being updated. Residents of the care home take part in sports, cultural and social events, travel and socialise.

The total cost of creating the “Butterfly Garden” together with the equipment is over UAH 3.4 million. The project was implemented with the support of benefactors, communities, international partners and concerned individuals.

The opening of the space was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ireland to Ukraine, Jonathan Conlon, and the Consul General of the Czech Republic in Lviv, Jiří Bortel. The Lviv Regional Military Administration notes that such initiatives help the region move away from the outdated model of institutional care and build a system centred on the person, their dignity, development and socialisation.

Also, according to Maksym Kozytskyi, there are plans to create modular houses for the institution’s residents in order to bring living conditions closer to a family environment and give residents more space for independence.
