The key for the week: liquidation of bad weather in Stryi Oblast, assistance to residents of Kherson Oblast and the agreement between Ukraine and the EU

The head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytsky, spoke about the main events of the past week.

In Lviv Oblast, Stryi and Drohobytskyi districts, namely Skolivska and Skhidnytska communities, were affected due to heavy downpours and the flow of mountain rivers. The Skhidnychanka River overflowed its banks, destroyed bridges, medium-pressure gas pipelines, and flooded more than 100 households. At the meeting of the regional commission on technogenic and ecological safety and emergency situations, the flood was defined as an emergency situation at the facility level. District military administrations, together with local self-government bodies, have obliged to ensure the prompt implementation of emergency rescue and other urgent works to eliminate the consequences of worsening weather conditions and rain floods.

“As of this morning, the water level has dropped to 0.5 m in the Drohobytsky District. 3 streets are still partially flooded. Water was pumped out of 16 residential buildings yesterday. Also, from the basements of 2 hotel complexes. Basements in 13 houses remain partially flooded. In addition, 1 car was partially blocked, 6 were towed away. Due to flood currents, 5 shopping pavilions cannot be restored. 5 local bridges were damaged. A pedestrian crossing made of concrete blocks was set up near one of them,” Maksym Kozytskyi said.

In the village of Skhidnytsia and the village of Novy Kropyvnyk, gas supply is gradually being restored. Electricity has already been restored. Water supply – too. Due to damage to the bridge in Novy Kropyvnyk and 2 bridges in the village of Pereprostinya, access to 16 settlements remains limited. A detour is possible on the Skhidnytsia-Turka highway. Access to 32 residential buildings is limited in Pereprostyn. There is no transport connection to 18 residential buildings, and pedestrian access is limited.

“In the Stryi district, at the entrance to the village of Urych, the road linking Skhidnytsia – Urych – Verkhne Sinyovydne is washed out, and the bridge over the Urichanka River is partially washed out. As of this morning, the water has receded. The situation is under the control of specialists,” added the head of the Lviv Region.

On Tuesday, June 6, Russia blew up the Kakhovskaya HPP and provoked a huge disaster. Lviv Oblast immediately mobilized efforts to accept everyone who would need it. They also sent the necessary equipment for local residents, doctors and rescuers – generators and heat guns from the Department of Civil Protection of the Lviv Regional State Administration, medicines, family kits with sanitary products, basic necessities from the Lviv Regional Center for Emergency Medical Aid and Disaster Medicine, trucks with water from the Morshyn Mineral Water Plant “Oscar”.

“Volunteers of medical and psychological care at the Main Railway Station meet people coming from Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and other cities and villages. Currently, they arrive in small groups. Mostly by their own transport or regular trains with transfers,” Maksym Kozytskyi said.

During these days, caring people and organizations bring basic assistance to the station for people who have evacuated. Thanks to everyone, in particular to 88-year-old Lviv woman Valentina, she collected a whole bag of things for our citizens who suffered as a result of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP. I also thank our partners UNHCR Ukraine – the UN Refugee Agency in Ukraine, the Right to Protection, NEEKA Ukraine, the Rokada Charitable Foundation, the Maltese Aid Service, Solidarités International, UNICEF Ukraine.
