In the Lviv region, three more monuments-symbols of the Soviet occupation are being dismantled

It is about objects-monuments to Soviet soldiers in the city of Turka, the village of Medenichi et al. Arrows.

Yesterday, March 7, another meeting of the advisory board on cultural heritage protection at the Department of Architecture and Urban Development of Lviv Oblast was held. Among the issues considered are those that contribute to the process of decommunization.

“From the beginning of the year, three communities of the region applied to the department with the aim of getting rid of the symbols of the Soviet occupation on their territory. Turka and Strelki plan to move mass graves of Soviet soldiers from the central part of their settlements to local cemeteries. And the residents of the village of Medenichi – to dismantle the sculpture of the Soviet soldier. We support such decisions, and therefore brought these issues to the advisory board for consideration as soon as possible, and its members unanimously supported all three initiatives. Now the relevant documents will be submitted to the central body for the protection of cultural heritage,” comments the director of the department, Olena Vasylko.

Also, during the meeting, the issue of the historical certificate of the “Jewish cemetery (graveyard) in the city of Khodoryv” was considered. Based on the results of the discussions, an appeal will be directed to the local self-government body regarding the possibility of developing a historical and architectural master plan of the city.

We will remind, last week, 6 objects were decommunized in the region.
