Union of Ukrainian Women, Sofia Karaffa-Korbut, Patriarch Dimitry Yarema: 8 more streets were renamed in Lviv

Therefore, now in Lviv there will be the streets of Academician Kateryna Yushchenko (instead of Sofia Kovalevska Street), Union of Ukrainian Women (instead of Mykola Lobachevskyi Street), Sofia Karaffa-Korbut (instead of Ivan Aivazovskyi Street), Igor Dashko (instead of Volodymyr Filatov Street), Taras Bobanych “Hammer” (instead of Volodymyr Korolenko Street), Patriarch Dimitriy Yarema (instead of Anton Chekhov Street), Vasyl Kuk (instead of Vasyl Zhukovsky Street). And st. Pyotr Tchaikovsky was divided: one part – from T. Shevchenko Ave. to St. V. Stefanyk – was named after Myroslav Skoryk, and the second – from the street. V. Stefanyk to Lviv Citadel – renamed to st. Citadel.

As the first deputy mayor of Lviv, head of the working group Andriy Moskalenko emphasized, the list of toponyms with options for renaming was formed by the working group based on proposals from residents, public organizations, scientific and artistic institutions.

We will remind you that 39 streets in the Lviv community were renamed earlier. So, as of today, within the framework of decolonization, new Ukrainian names have already been assigned to 47 streets.

In total, 53 streets named after Russian figures or with names associated with the Russian Empire, Russia or Soviet propaganda will be de-Russified in the Lviv Territorial Community. Two streets from this list were decided to join the existing ones, as they are very small. Another street was renamed within the garden cooperative. The complete list of streets is on the Lviv City Council website.

Andriy Moskalenko added that in Lviv, city spaces are named after Roman Ivanychuk and Artemiy Demyd. The relevant decision is planned to be submitted for consideration at the next session of the City Council.

“The working group supported proposals to name city spaces in honor of Roman Ivanychuk and Artemiy Demyd. We plan to approve the prepared proposals at the next session,” said Andriy Moskalenko, the first deputy mayor of Lviv, head of the working group on street renaming.

Important: after the renaming of streets in the Lviv community, residents will not need to urgently change documents. Read more about it here.
