In Lviv, construction has commenced on a new bridge to Riasne, which holds significant importance for improving transport connectivity in the city. The new overpass, to be located on Kovcha Street, will have three traffic lanes and a dedicated cycle-pedestrian zone, allowing for the reconstruction of the old bridge. The works are being carried out by the contractor ‘Onur’. This project aims to reduce traffic on the congested Shevchenka Street and enhance traffic safety, as reported by the Lviv City Council.
“The Riasne and Riasne-2 districts are connected to the Lviv city centre by a bridge built back in 1888, which is currently in a state of disrepair. Shevchenka Street sees approximately 27,000 cars passing daily, and public transport runs here every two minutes,” noted Oleh Zabarilo, Director of the Municipal Mobility and Street Infrastructure Department. There are also plans to organise a new cycle-pedestrian route three metres wide and an auxiliary pavement.
Mykola Vlasiuk from LKP ‘Lvivavtodor’ added that this project will not affect train movements, but the public transport stop on Kovcha Street will be relocated. It is planned to complete the works within 11 months, utilising credit funds alongside the municipal budget to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
